Have questions about our medical spa treatments? Explore answers to common questions about aesthetic services, treatment preparation, recovery, and appointments at Selora Med Spa in Williamsville, NY.
1. What is a medical spa and how is it different from a regular spa?
A medical spa (med spa) blends the relaxing experience of a traditional spa with advanced, non-surgical medical aesthetic treatments. Unlike a regular spa, med spas provide physician-led services such as injectables, laser treatments, skin rejuvenation, and body contouring—performed by licensed and trained medical professionals under appropriate supervision.
2. Do I need a consultation before my first treatment?
Yes. We require a consultation prior to most treatments so our expert providers can assess your concerns, understand your goals, and recommend a personalized plan. This ensures safety and optimal results.
3. How should I prepare for treatments like Dysport/Daxxify, Fillers, Sculptra, Microneedling, Laser and Hydrafacials?
Preparation varies by treatment. For injectables, avoid blood-thinning medications and alcohol 24 hours prior (if approved by your prescribing physician). For laser or microneedling, avoid sun exposure, Vitamin C and Retinols, self-tanners, and aggressive exfoliation at least a week beforehand. Certain antibiotics and anti-fungal medications can lead to photosensitivity. We often need clients to be off of these mediations for at least 2 weeks before any laser treatments. Specific instructions will be provided when you schedule your consultation and treatments.
4. How long do results last for injectables (Dysport/Daxxify and dermal fillers)?
Neuromodulator (Daxxify/Dysport) typically last between 3-6 months depending on the neurotoxin as well as metabolism of the client. Dermal fillers can last 6–12 months or more depending on product type, area treated, and individual metabolism. Regular maintenance appointments help sustain results.
5. Is there downtime after treatments like HydraFacial or laser skin rejuvenation?
Most non-invasive treatments, like HydraFacials, have little to no downtime—you may return to normal activities immediately with Sunscreen on! Laser skin rejuvenation may cause temporary redness or mild swelling that typically resolves within a few days. Following aftercare instructions to maximize healing and results.
6. What does laser hair removal feel like and how many sessions are needed?
Laser hair removal sensations vary by individual but are often described as a light snapping or warm sensation, however well tolerated. Because hair grows in cycles, multiple sessions are typically needed to optimize results and spaced about 4-8 weeks apart depending on the area(s) treated.
7. Is med spa treatment safe?
Yes. At Selora Med Spa, all treatments are provided by licensed and trained professionals within a physician-led facility. We prioritize safety, conduct medical histories, and tailor treatments for your skin type and goals.
8. Can multiple treatments be combined in one visit?
Depending on the services, many treatments can be combined to enhance results. Your provider will recommend the safest and most effective sequence during your consultation.
9. What should I expect during my first visit?
Your first visit typically includes a detailed consultation, medical history review, and a customized plan. Providers will explain the procedure, benefits, risks, and aftercare. You may receive treatment the same day if ready and appropriate.
10. How do I schedule, cancel or reschedule an appointment?
Appointments can be scheduled online, by text or by phone call. We ask that you provide at least 24 hours’ notice to cancel or reschedule to avoid late cancellation fees. Payment is due at the time of service. Specific scheduling information is available on our booking page.
